Established in 2005 by Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Turing Award laureate and world-renowned computer scientist, the Computer Science Experimental Class at Tsinghua Xue Tang (commonly known as the "Yao Class") aims to cultivate top-tier talents in computer science and interdisciplinary innovation. Over two decades, it has earned global recognition for its “outstanding undergraduates and exceptional undergraduate education.”
The Yao Class brings together a first-rate faculty, offers carefully designed programs, extensive international research opportunities, and is committed to building a world-class talent development platform. In line with technological frontiers and national strategic needs, students may choose from three tracks: Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Quantum Information. Academician Yao personally designs and teaches a comprehensive curriculum covering these cutting-edge areas.
Recognized and supported by the Ministry of Education, the Yao Class serves as a model for elite talent cultivation in China. Graduates are now making impactful contributions across academia and high-tech industries worldwide, advancing the global information revolution.
The belief of the Yao Class is: “The best teachers design the most advanced courses to educate the most outstanding students!” We warmly welcome new students to join us.
The Tsinghua Center for Quantum Information (referred to as the "Quantum Center") is a core research institution under the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University. It is led by Turing Award recipient Academician Andrew Chi-Chih Yao and has Professor Lu-Ming Duan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, serving as the executive director. The center aims to break through the limits of traditional computing and lead the quantum information technology revolution in the post-Moore era.The Quantum Center focuses on research directions such as full quantum networks, quantum computing, quantum simulation, quantum algorithms, quantum communication complexity theory, and quantum operations research. It has published dozens of papers in top-tier journals like Nature and Science and has successfully set multiple new international records. These achievements are propelling China towards becoming a global leader in quantum information technology innovation.
The strategic positioning and practical application of artificial intelligence and information science in a country's real economy determine the era mission of scientific research innovation and talent cultivation in related fields. Since its establishment in 2011, the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences has long been committed to deeply exploring new concepts for the construction of first-class disciplines from an international perspective. It has always maintained a top position in the international field of basic algorithm theory in the construction of artificial intelligence disciplines. At the same time, it continuously expands cutting-edge cross-disciplinary research directions such as secure computing, computational economics, machine intelligence, reinforcement learning, computational biology, autonomous driving, and natural language processing, and is committed to exploring new paths to promote the development of domestic artificial intelligence disciplines through the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents and original scientific research breakthroughs.
